    Notes Goedertrouw Dam was at 91% capacity. The embankments were surprisingly well vegetated with few open areas. Alien plants, particularly Sesbania which were previously submerged and are now dead are favourite purches for Malachite kingfishers. Unfortunately, new Sesbania recruitment is occuring along the shoreline above the sites originally colonised. The upper catchment area of the dam had no mud banks due to the high water level, bird counts here were exceptionally low compared with previous counts. Another point of interest was the vast establishment of Persicaria serrulata (Knotweed) along various sections of the shoreline. Additional effort was put into looking for Whitebacked night herons, especially in favoured Euphorbia tirucalli shelters and at old nest sites, unfortunately no sighting were made.
