Notes Perfect weather for counting. The breeze was just enough to cool us down. Water levels fairly low. Very little regrowth of water weeds since the mouth closed again on 9 December 2009. Lack of water fowl such as Red-knobbed Coot and Common Moorhen allarming. Only Yellow-billed Ducks in the river just before widening into the lagoon. In fact, most birds were counted around the last section of the river before and at the point of entering into the lagoon. Two different sub-adult African Fish Eagles were seen in our section. The first one was seen with both parents in the river section below the bridge. I would guess that this was a 1st year bird. The second one was seen in the bay at Benguela Cove. The colouring was more advanced than the first bird. It showed more white on the head and tail and was less mottled than the first bird. My estimate was that this was a 2nd year bird.
