    Notes Quite calm, clear. Arrive at 06h30, when I notice a number of geese flying from the dam, preumably to some nearby lands. Were noticed returning at 08h20, when I wanted to start the count. 08h40: Egyptian Geese and SA Shelduck still coming in, from W. 08h55: a few of all three species (i.e., Spur-winged Geese as well) came in. Census started at 09h00. The long bay on the N side, and the top half of the one near the lion camp, were censused with a scope on a tripod; some smaller birds were probably missed. Breeding & moult records: Yellow-billed Duck: 1 adult + 3 young (class 1a) & 1 ad+ 1 young (1c); 17 MOULTING A63"flappers" in the upper reaches; Egyptian Goose. Heronry in a small isolated clump of Soetdoring trees c.300 m from the N shore (near the rocky island) at 28 52'4.1"S 25 59'14.2"E; mostly adult and juvenile birds: Reed Cormorant: 184 birds, with 1 ad seen feeding a well-grown chick; Cattle Egret: 878 birds; an ad was seen feeding 2 well-grown chicks; Yellow-billed Egret: 2 ad and 1 juvenile bird; Black-headed Heron: 1 ad + 2 nests with 2y (well-grown); Sacred Ibis: 34 birds; 1 begging fledgling seen, there was an ad at a nest with 2y (1/2 grown) and an ad fed 2 y (well-grown) on the ground below the trees; African Spoonbill: 1 ad in one of the trees.
