Notes Pan nearly dry, save for the water in the excavations at the N and S ends, the active saltworks at the N end, and c.50 sq. m of mudflats along the E side and at N end, from seepage from four springs. Most of the Chestnut-banded Plovers were at or near these mudflats, and also in some old saltworks ponds, which were slightly damp. The shelduck normally rear their young on the southern ponds/excavations, but there was no sign of any ducklings. The springs on the E side also form a vlei along a section of the margin of the pan, which is where the Black Harrier was quartering (details sent to Dr Rob Simmons).
