    Notes Weather very cold with light wind. Although a large area of the Vlei is covered by water, this is shallow and the contents of the Vlei are well down. Surprisingly, no Coots where previously there have been large numbers; also no Grey or Black-headed Herons at the Vlei or in nearby areas covered during Pentad survey. This diminishing number of birds is something we have noticed all over, during repeated trips to both the Kruger Park and to Natal, over the past few years.
