    Notes Tana River Delta was counted properly for the fist time since counts began in 1992. This was courtesy of Tana River Camp who provided us with transport. In the latter section a group of approximately 400 hippo were seen at the point where the count ended. Also along this stretch of river were many thousands of Bam Swallow - probably numbering into the hundred thousands.The count covered 15 kms of tidal creek lined with mangroves; 8-10 hectares of mud flat that are covered only in the very highest tides, therefore were no very productive for waders; a section of the main river course of approximately 8kms starting at GPS and ending at GPS.
