    Notes After a cool start, as the morning progressed the wind got very strong, making conditions difficult. It should be noted that 5 or so of the pans closest to the R27 bridge on Jan Kotze's property are now dry with no birds present. Mining of salt has ceased there. In the past years this would have had good numbers of birds. New pans have been created more upstream on the site and disturbance in doing this may have disturbed the birds as bird numbers were low on most pans adjacent to these. 12 Little Egret adults and juveniles at nests beginning of site in gumtrees close to Jan Kotze's house
