    Notes Pumps removed December 2018 (due to continued theft)and saltpans abandoned and then dried out. 12 Oct 2021 freshwater from the Motherwell Stormwater canal was diverted into the pan (urban stormwater and hence contaminated with non-solid waste). Slightly saline due to salt remaining from saltpan era. During this count pans were 95% full, lower than the 110% full during the July 2023 count as inlet canal is blocked with reeds and most incoming water is flowing into the river, allowing the pan to dry down a little. Only a little floating algae around edges (after initial filling with freshwater much of the pan surface was covered in floating algae)
