    Notes Saltpans not operational since Jan 2017 due to ongoing theft at pumps. Pans slowly dried out. This survey: Overall pans c50% full of freshwater after heavy rain 2 June 2024 & again end Oct 2024, now drying down. Some salt left in sediments. Freshwater vlei by rail: 90% full. Main saltpans 30-70% full. Pan by river dry & covered in dense saltmarsh. Count by vehicle and foot.
