Notes This site has numerous serious threats. It is bordered by high density residential, commercial and industrial land uses and a busy road network. Water flowing into the pan is contaminated by sewage and potentially industrial waste. Historically the site was used for dumping of rubble, garden refuse and plastic waste. The remaining terrestrial habitat is heavily invaded by alien trees and herbaceous weeds. The southern side of the pan has an active zama zama community involved in waste processing and possibly metal extraction. Residents of surrounding estate throw bottles and other domestic waste into the grassland around the pan.
