Brief_description |
Mida Creek is 32 sq kms of open water, sand flats and mangrove forest. It is a Marine Reserve and a Forest Reserve under the Kenya Wildlife Service and Kenya Forest Service. The actual area counted regularly is the inland section of mainly open sand flats which is the area where c.80% of waterbirds forage at low tide and on a neap high tide c.90% roost together not far from the constructed bird hide. |

The mangrove forests have a very high productivity level and the creek is important as a breeding site for fish as well as feeding area for juvenile sea turtles (mainly Green Turtle). It is an Important Bird Area particularly for Lesser Sand Plovers |
