| Brief_description |
| The only South African drowned deflation basin lake, with no stream inflow and with seepage outlets to the sea. Extensive fringing and emergent sedgemarsh and reedmarsh, with surrounding rank grassland. Existing counts are too few and too restricted to reflect the site''s importance: it may hold significant numbers of Redchested Flufftail and other secretive rails, and of Little Bittern, while the uncommon Grass Owl occurs. Threats include uncontrolled burning, eutrophication, alien vegetation, and increasing Phragmites cover at the expense of other marsh vegetation, possibly due to cessation of grazing. |
